UMSC GU14 All
Star Wins Lake Simcoe Tournament
Congratulation to U-MSC
GU-14 team for winning the Lake Simcoe Tournament!
The girls won their
qualifying round by 2-0, 2-0, 1-0 and finally winning their final
championship game by 5-0. The girls played an amazing game shutting
out the tournament. “Watching the girls play in this tournament was
like listening to a beautiful piece of music, they were all in synch”,
said the coaching staff Alfie Ng and Philip Chow; or as the girls
would say, “Listening to the Jonas Brothers sing”.
You cannot go through
a tournament by not giving up one goal without a solid defense. Our
defense was a force to be reckoned with. The defensive team of Kristin Dass, Melanie Ng, Celine Yu and Wessal Omarkhail were like the “Great
Wall of China”. Whenever the ball hit, it bounced back. When the
frustrated opponent finally struck hard enough and punched a hole
through the Great Wall of China, our impenetrable Goal Keeper was
there to say “No Way, Jose”!, and stopped every shot directed at the
net. A very special “thank you” goes to Nicole Tortorici, Esin Uner
and Tiffany Chow for “volunteering” to play goalie, and for performing
flawlessly as the last line of defense. Our goal keepers had only one
goal and that was to deny the opponent of theirs and denied them they
did.
People say Soccer is
a beautiful sport, and this beauty is exemplified by our “Play
Makers”, the Mid-fielders; Vanessa Barnwell, Lidia Tortorici, Nicole
Tortorici, Nicole Samara, Lauren Mah and Tiffany Chow. They were there
to support the defense, and set up the Forward for the final finish.
You cannot loose a
game if you don’t let in a goal, and you cannot win unless you get a
goal. When it came to making it count, the speed of Marissa Chin and
Alex Lowe, the powerful kick of Harleen Nijjar, the accuracy of our
“lefty” Mary Kathleen Spray and Esin Uner played the finale notes to a
beautiful song by putting that ball into the net, scoring a total of
10 goals in the tournament.

UMSC Strikers 1995 Boys Red Crowned Champions
The Team travelled to Michigan for the Alliance FC
International Spring Invite Tournament. The U13 (USA 1994 Age
Group) round robin qualifying stage saw the Squad win both their
games 3-nil and 4-nil respectively. Outside of a few exhibition
games, these initial games were the first two games of the 2008
season and the Boys seem to be in mid-season form playing a
controlled game of soccer.
In the semi-finals the Team played host team
Alliance FC; never an easy task to play the host team of any
tournament let alone a US based international tournament at that.
The Team came out strong scoring a quick goal in the opening minutes
of the match. After the initial goal, the game settled down until
the mid way mark of the second half where an exceptional play that
initiated out of the midfield to see UMSC Strikers go up 2-nil on
the host team. A final goal was scored in the dying minutes of the
match, final score UMSC 3, Alliance FC nil.
The final match was a nail biter from the opening
whistle. The Boys scored first to take a 1-nil lead over the 5th
ranked Michigan Team the Muskegon Lakers. The Muskegon Team fought
back to tie the match to open the second half; but our Boys are a
determined group of young men and held most of the possession in the
second half. At the mid way mark of the second half the ball saw
the back of the Muskegon net for a second time in the match, that
was eventually the game winner, UMSC Striker 2, Muskegon Lakers 1.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A special thanks to the Coaches and Parents for all
the hard work in making this weekend a success.
