Congratulations and a Call to
Excellence
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Unionville Milliken Soccer Club,
congratulations to those elected to lead our community for the next four
years.
Our volunteer efforts, according to
province-wide rankings, have made us not only the premier soccer club in
Markham, but one of the top three Clubs in York Region. We seek from our
elected officials support for our young athletes of no less than the same
standard of excellence, delivered in a timely fashion.
To those candidates who endorsed our efforts but
were not elected, we offer our thanks and invite them to continue to support
our Club outside the political sphere.
Our young athletes deserve no less than the
uncompromising best we can offer. Together, our efforts will benefit the
community at large, not just the young athletes whom we serve. |

UMSC position on the Milliken Mills Complex!
The UMSC’s position on
the Milliken Mills Complex is as follows:
A complex of at least four
contiguous tournament quality fields must be maintained at the Milliken
Mills complex, without interruption and throughout the construction of new
reservoirs. The three new fields required to achieve this goal must be ready
for use by spring 2009. This will be done by converting existing facilities to
add at least 3 new soccer fields by fall 2008, to minimize disruption to 9,000
youth soccer players, 7 tournaments and 6 leagues that use these facilities
from May until October, on a non-stop basis, annually.
A letter was sent on
November 12, 2006 on behalf
of the UMSC board of
Directors requesting all candidates in the upcoming 2006
Municipal
Election for the Town of Markham to disclose their views on the UMSC’s position on the Milliken Mills Complex. Details of the letter can be
found in Save the Complex.
Please visit Support for the UMSC position for the list
of candidates who are willing to publicly support the UMSC’s position. |

Save
the Milliken Mills Complex!
Do you know that soon our
community will lose the beautiful Milliken Mills Sports Complex?
The City of Toronto is
proposing to expand the Milliken Pumping Station and Reservoir.
The existing in-ground reservoir, owned and operated by the City of
Toronto, is located right next to the Milliken Mills Sports Complex.
This expansion project, if it proceeds as planned, will mean that our beautiful
and unique Sports facility with 5 adjoining soccer fields will no longer exist as we know
it today. This will have a devastating impact on our community and our soccer club. For more information, please
visit the
Save the Complex. The club has also started a
petition to collect as many signatures as possible from our supporters.
Have you signed the UMSC
petition yet? You can also help to collect as many
signatures as possible, and return the petition to the Club Office.
It is extremely important
for you, our soccer community, to voice your concerns and comments about the impact of this project before it is TOO LATE!!. Please take a few moments
to fill out the
comment sheet. Have the parents, children the soccer players, complete the
comment sheet and make your voice heard. Pass on the information to your
friends, relatives, neighbours and your fellow
soccer players. Send in as many comment sheets as possible to:
