UMSC Girls Strikers 1988
Last night's game against Richmond Hill marked the end of a very special time for the Unionville 1988 Strikers. After 10 years together as a team we have reached the end of the road as a youth team. This year has been a special year culminating in a CGSL League and Cup Double. The girls won 6 - 1 with goals by Liora Berger, Leah Ramsden, Jennifer Wong, Anna Robinson, Elizabeth Andrews and Corinne Babiolakis

The achievements for this year have been fantastic; the team won the CGSL with a perfect record Played 14, Won 14, Goals For 63, Goals Against 10, Points 42. Our League cup record was an impressive played 3 won 3 Goals for 15 Goals against 2. The only hiccup in the Ontario Cup losing to Barrie 2-1 but ending with a record of Played 4 won 3 lost 1 Goals for 14 Goals against 6. In total we have scored a staggering 92 goals this year. We are currently ranked # 2 by the terra rankings (our highest position ever).

The individual achievements this year are too numerous to mention but we have the following players going to the USA to play soccer and pursue their academics:

Alauna Pierce          University of Detroit Mercy (Detroit, Michigan)
Alexa Arsenault       Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio)
Leanne Rowley        Brenau University (Gainsville, Georgia)
Anna Robinson        Vasser College (Poughkeepsi, New York)

Our girls going to Canadian schools are:

Michelle Jatz             (Ryerson University)
Shaelyn Culleton     (Waterloo University) - Shaelyn was awarded the 2006 CGSL Carolyn Jones Memorial Scholarship Award. The CGSL awards two scholarships annually to players/candidates who exemplify the spirit of fair play, who possess the ability to balance both academic and athletic success and who display leadership skills in the pursuit of excellence.
Jennifer Wong            (Waterloo University)
Delta Pilote                (Waterloo University)

Leah Ramsden           (Laurier University)

GU15 are 2006 DISCL Holiday Tournament Champions
A big congratulations to all our team for winning the Durham Indoor Soccer Holiday Tournament on January 2nd. And a great big thanks to our hockey girls for coming out to play with us.
UMSC Strikers went undefeated in the this tournament. We started with a 0-0 tie against Ajax Jaguars and ended with a justified final 2-1 win over Darlington Fusion. It may have been the gooey desserts after dinner that gave our team the extra energy "kick" for that 10 pm final game! But, we believe it was the sheer talent and athleticism of our team. Our opponents were a cross-section of OYSL, Premier and Division 1 CGSL teams.
This tournament was another great illustration of the grit and teamwork we are capable of...here's to continuing to meet this level of play and exceeding it in our upcoming 2006 outdoor campaign! (George Kontos)

UMSC GU14 win first round of Ontario Cup
Today, the UMSC GU14 went on to win their round of the Ontario Cup being held at the OSA center in Vaughan.
They won in style, by finishing first of their group, tying 0-0 their first game against West Rouge, then won 2-0 from against Richmond Hill, and finally won 1-0 in a fierce match-up against Oakville. This was a real accomplishment as Oakville is ranked #2 team in Ontario. The team is now advancing to the final round of the Ontario Cup, which will be played on February the 18th, and where Unionville will play against Thunder Bay, Ajax, and Mississauga Erin Mills to qualify for the semi-finals. Congratulations to the team and the coaching staff lead by Paul Omoghan for an outstanding performance.
