1993A Boys Win Holiday Classic
Tournament!
Congratulations to the
1993A Boys for winning the 2005 Holiday Classic Tournament at the Hangar.
The Strikers defeated Brampton 1-0, Sporting Lyons 8-0 and Weston 1-0 and
tied Toronto Eagles 1-1 in the preliminary round. The Strikers then defeated
Pickering 2-0 in the Quarter Finals and North York Hearts Azzurri 5-4 (after
penalty kicks) in the Semis, before defeating Serbian White Eagles 6-5 in an
exciting penalty shootout to clinch the Cup.
The Boys displayed superb soccer skills and excellent discipline and were
undefeated in this 7 games Tournament, scoring 14 goals while conceding only
2.
Congrats to the team Head Coach, Don Taffe, and the Boys for a job well
done!

1992 Boys OYSL Team WINS Exhibition
Game at half time show at Mens Pro Futsal Final Game!
On November 13th the newly formed 1992 Boys OYSL Team, coached by Duncan
Findlow, were invited to play an exhibition game at the half time show for
the Mens Pro Futasal Final Game. This was the first time the players played
this type of soccer. They also played a team a year older than them. They
showed their skill, strength and speed and defeated Columbia 3-0.

Annual General Meeting Update
The UMSC AGM was held on Friday November 11, 2005. Over 75 UMSC members
attended as well as YRSA representative Cesare Tripodo. The President,
Robert Ortali, reviewed the club's achievements and accomplishments during
2005. There were several other reviews by the Financial Auditor - Dan
Maggiori, VP Finance - Manjit Sidhu, Competitive VP – Danny Daniel and
Recreational VP - Richard Herold.
All Clubs in the province must have their Club constitutions in compliance
with the OSA’s minimum requirements by no later than January 31, 2006.
Failure to be compliant will result in that Club not being eligible to be a
member of that District Association during the 2006 season. The UMSC board
tabled compliance required amendments to the Constitution and reviewed with
the membership. There were also other amendments tabled and discussed.

After serving eight years
on the UMSC board – 5 years as President, Robert Ortali retired from
the Executive Board and bid an emotional farewell to the members. On behalf
of UMSC, the incoming President Richard Herold thanked Robert for his
contributions and support over the years and wished him all the best.
The club also wishes to thank Patrick Anam our retiring Special
Events director, for his contributions while serving on the
executive committee. |

U13A Boys capture CSL Premiere
Championship!
The U13A Boys "Real
Strikers" has captured the Championship of the CSL Premiere League, earning
the team a spot in the prestigious OYSL Division next summer 2006.
The U13A boys' team had a successful 2005 outdoor season, winning the
Greater London Super Cup, Semi-finalist in the Robbie Tournament and Quarter
Finalist in the Ontario Cup. The team ended the season with 14 wins, 3
Draws,1 loss and with only 18 goals against.
In addition based on the latest
rankings the U13A boys are ranked #4 in Ontario.
This is quite an accomplishment! WAY TO GO STRIKERS!!
Congratulations to the Coaching Staff, Team Manager and Parents!
Your hardwork and dedication has paid off!!!!

2005 Athletes of the Year - Toronto Star
UMSC athletes were among
those honoured by their
high schools as Athletes of the Year. Cassandra Sparks, an outstanding
hockey, volleyball and soccer player, plays for the Unionville Milliken CGSL
Gu-18 Regional Premiere team, was featured in a colour photo and article
on the front page of the Star sports section this past Tuesday in The Star's
annual honour roll of high school sports excellence.
Cassie
just graduated from high school in Stouffville, and will be attending Queen's University in the autumn.
Also mentioned as their high school's top athletes were Mallory McCartney of
Mark Rodrigues'
U-18A team, attending Trafalgar H.S. in Whitby, and
Julie Giantsopoulos of Mike Sunn's u-21 NDSL team, attending St. Augustine's
CHS in Markham. Cassie is holding a hockey stick, and is third from the
right, in the maroon jersey, behind the baseball player. For more

2005 Challenge Cup Tournament Update
With
127 teams participating under tropical weather conditions, the
2005 Challenge Cup, hosted by the UMSC, was held on
June 11-12, 2005. Special thanks to Patrick Anam, Sam Lacava,
Angele Williams, Rex Christopher, Sandy Bhatti, Cecile Corso, Antonella
Lacava, Paul Keeling, Yusri Rudolph and the many volunteers for their
exceptional hard work and dedication to delivering a 1st class Tournament.

U-13A Boys
Win Ontario Cup Qualifier Tournament
The U13A Boys "Real Strikers" began
it's qualification for the 2005 Ontario Cup with great success!
The boys
won all 4 games against Mississauga Dixie Bulldogs, Dorchester Rock, Caledon
Strikers and North Scarborough Harlem and showed their offensive and defensive
skills by scoring 20 goals.
They will now move on to face Oakville Cross in the quarterfinals on August
7th. Way to go Strikers! |

GU18A, coached by Mark Rodrigues, have been ranked # 1 in Ontario for the
U18 Girls category and # 2 in Ontario overall for the U18 Boys and Girls.

Carolyn Jones Memorial Award -
Stephanie Herold
Stephanie Herold, member
of the GU-18 Unionville-Milliken S.C. CGSL Regional Premiere team, has been awarded the Carolyn Jones
Memorial Award offered by the CGSL. The awards are presented to CGSL
candidates are not only about soccer, but about players "who possess the
ability to balance both academic and athletic success, and who display
leadership skills in the pursuit of excellence."
The UMSC produced many outstanding candidates, and the selection process was
no doubt a challenging one for the CGSL panel. Congratulations to Stephanie,
and to all candidates who are involved on a volunteer basis in and outside
of UMSC, maintaining academic excellence, and enrich their communities. |

Patrick Kerr
The UMSC is
sad to report that Patrick Kerr, father of Kevin Kerr the current head coach
of the B-U11 team and the previous club head coach, has passed away on
Saturday June 18 at the age of 60.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Viewing will be held at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home (8911 Woodbine Ave) on
Monday June 20 between 5 - 9 pm. |

U-13A Boys
Win Greater London Super Cup
The U13A Boys "Real Strikers" began their 2005
outdoor season on a very positive note, by winning the 2005 Greater London
Super Cup this past weekend May 14-15/05.
The finals were played against the London Thunder team, with the Strikers
winning by a score of 3-2.
The team
completed the tournament undefeated, scoring an impressive 33 goals allowing
only 2 goals.

U-13A Girls
Reach Tournament Finals
Congratulations to the U-13A
Girls for going the distance in the North American Division at the West
Niagara Tournament! The 1992 Strikers performance throughout the tournament
was astounding. They finished 2nd in their group to advance to the
semi-finals. They tied 1-1 with Niagara Falls Extreme, 1-1 with Ancaster
Titans and defeated Richmond Hill Raiders 2-1 in the round robin. The
Strikers had an awesome semi-final game defeating Erin Mills Eagles 1-0 The
Strikers faced Niagara Falls Extreme in the final game. It was an intensely
played game that was held at a 1-1 draw through regulation time and 2-10
minute overtime periods. It came down to penalty kicks with Niagara Falls
emerging as the winner. The UMSC Strikers maintained an undefeated record in
this tournament which was an outstanding achievement for this determined and
focused team of girls. Fantastic performance girls! |

U-18 Striker Earns US Scholarship
The UMSC is
proud to announce that Lara Traczyk, a member
of the OYSL
under 18 strikers team, has earned an athletic scholarship from the University
of North Dakota.
This is a tremendous achievement by Lara and the club is extremely proud of her.

Meri Ortali
In memory of our dear friend, team-mate and
colleague and fellow soccer parent. Born June 19, 1959 Departed April 9,
2005, surrounded by her family.
Meri was the loving
mother of Marc Ortali (BU-15) and Vanessa Ortali, wife of UMSC President
Robert. Meri will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched as
Director, Soccer School, Director, Girls Competitive Soccer, Director, Rep
Banquet, Producer, Rep Video Program; and Manager, BU15 CSL Competitive team.
Meri was an inspiration to us all not only as a community volunteer of wide
and deep experience and involvement, but as a cancer survivor and inspiration
to others afflicted with this illness which has affected too many members of
our community, and which affliction she bravely struggled against, on her
terms, buoyed by her faith, grace and indomitable strength, to the end of her
stay with us. Godspeed, Meri, on your heavenly journey.

U-16 Girls Reach Indoor
Tournament Final
Congratulations to the UMSC Girls
of 89 (Under 16) for their results at the OSA March Break tournament.
The team advanced to the
semi-finals defeating Northumberland 1-0, Kleinburg 1-0 and losing to
Mississauga 1-0.
The UMSC team had a great
semi-final game against Welland (who finished first in their division)
scoring early to take the Strikers to the finals against the OYSL Newmarket
team, who had beaten Mississauga on penalty shots to advance.
The final game was a real nail
biter with the UMSC team opening the score and holding the lead until the
last 2 minutes of play when Newmarket scored to tie the game. Newmarket
won the tournament 3-2 on penalty shootout.

U-18 Girls Defend Indoor
Tournament Title
Congratulations to the
U-18A Girls for winning the St. Valentine's Showcase tournament for the
second consecutive year, defeating the Vaughan Azzurri 2-0 to capture the
title at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
In reaching the final, the Strikers defeated the Richmond Hill Raiders 2-0 and
the Mississauga Falcons 2-1. Well done Strikers! |

U-18 Girls Win Orange Classic in
Florida!
Congratulations to the
U-18A Girls for winning the
Orange Classic Girls International Tournament in Florida.
The Strikers defeated Team Boca FL 3-0, Piscataway Fury NJ 2-0 and tied FC
Westchester NY 1-1 in the preliminary round. The Strikers clinched the cup
with a 3-2 win (after penalty kicks) over London United in the championship
game.
The team represented the club with class, dignity and superb soccer skills and
the UMSC is proud of their achievement. Well done girls! |
